Using the  Bid 4 Bears
 Auction Site
So how does Bid 4 Bears work? If you're familiar with other auction sites, then Bid 4 Bears is not going to difficult for you to learn to use. You can visit the site at:  www.bid4bears.com

Here  are some of the most commonly used features:

Registration: It's free to register, so just click on the site's Register button and fill out your information. Unlike other auctions sites there is no need to leave a credit card number if you are planning to sell.  A PayPal account is all that is needed to sell on Bid 4 Bears.  Fees to the site are collected via PayPal at this time.  More payment options are expected in the future.

Bidding:  You must be logged in to bid.  Click on the Login Button and you will be directed to your member's area, where you can monitor all of your activity.

Towards the bottom of the auction description page you will see a bidding box, you can use the shortcut link to the bidding box if you wish.  Enter in your bid, but note you must bid above the minimum bid required.  Click on the place bid button.  You will then be asked to confirm you bid.  Once you have done so your bid will be entered.  If successful you will receive a confirmation message. If your bid fails to outbid the current high bidder you will be offered the option to place a higher bid.

Proxy bidding can aid your chances of winning an auction and help avoid you being outbid at the last moment. To place a proxy bid enter in the maximum price you are willing to pay for the item. If another user places a bid on the same auction automatic bids will be placed on your behalf in accordance with your maximum bid amount. With proxy bidding you will pay the lowest possible price until someone else places a higher bid.

There is another way of bidding: Buy it now auctions. Buy it now prices are set by the seller, if you agree with that price, you can click on the Buy Now button which is displayed on the auction details page. After clicking on the button you will be re-directed to a confirmation page. On a standard auction that auction will end instantly as the item has been sold via Buy it Now.

Selling:  Once you have signed up for the Lemonade Bears Benefit you will be able to sell items through the site using a special Lemonade Bears Account.   Selling in this account works just as though you were selling under your own user ID  except:  no fees are incurred.  Money paid by the winning bidder will go directly to the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation via Paypal.  Our administrators will refund you the shipping cost of the auction once the transaction has completed.

You can leave feedback for your buyer, and they can leave feedback for the Benefit as a seller.  Feedback is not given to the individual artists.

In order to sell, you will have to log into the Lemonade Bears account.  Information with the user name and password will be sent to participating artists as the selling dates approach.  Click on the Sell link at the top of the page. You will be redirected to a page where you can then select the main category of the product or service you want to sell.  Continue following through with the template to list the auction. Be sure to check the box that shows you will Ship Internationally.

For the item description, a word processor is made available to you so that you can choose from a variety of fonts, colors and layouts.  Photos can also be inserted directly into the auction by linking to their remote location using the word processor.  Photos can also be uploaded to the auction directly from your computer if you wish.

More Information on the selling process will be emailed to the participating, registered, artists just prior to the auction listing dates.

Adding Photos to Your Listings:  There are two ways in which you can add a photo to your auction description.

1. You can upload a photo directly from your computer using our custom upload fields which are located in the Sellers listing form. Upload up to 6 photos for your auction. Some size restrictions do apply, so we recommend that the maximum size of your photo is 400 X 600 pixels in size at 72 dpi. We also recommend that your photos be in the .jpg format for quick download and viewing.

When adding photos using our upload fields, the photos will be displayed as thumbnails in your auction. When a visitor clicks on the thumbnail, the photo will be enlarged.

2. You can embed photos directly into the auction listing between lines of text by using the 'insert image' tool in the word processing tool panel of the auction description panel. Type the text you want in your auction and then click on the 'insert image' icon. A box will appear that will allow you to link to photos already stored on the internet. NOTE: to use this feature, your photos MUST previously be uploaded to a location on the internet such as a web site or photo storage space. This feature will not work for photos stored on your hard drive.

When the pop up box appears, simply type in the path to your photo. It will begin with http:// and should look something like this: http://www.yoursite.com/mypicture.jpg

Click OK and you will see your photo appear in the auction description. To Center the photo click on the 'center text' tool in your word processing tool bar. You can also have the picture aligned to the left of the right of the screen.

Preview your auction by clicking on the Preview Tool. This is the little magnifying glass, which is the second tool from the left in the word processing tool bar.
